Reminder to CalPERS Board Members

Caterpillar at work in Palestine – destroying orchards and homes
Dear Members of the CalPERS Board:
Almost a year ago, I petitioned you through the Israel Divestment Campaign to follow your own policy of socially responsible investing. I appealed to you to take action against companies like Caterpillar, Veolia, Elbit, Bank Hapoalim and Bank Leumi.
Recently, TIAA-CREF has eliminated Caterpillar, whose equipment is used in the ongoing violation of Palestinian human rights, from its Social Choice Fund. This divestment is largely the result of Caterpillar's poor rating on the MSCI Global Socially Responsible Index - a rating used by investors committed to socially responsible investing.
I call on PERS to follow the example set by the TIAA-CREF pension fund and to divest immediately from Caterpillar. Then PERS should reconsider its investments in Veolia, Elbit, Bank Hapoalim and Bank Leumi. Doing so would prove a genuine commitment to your own policies and would serve both PERS members and California taxpayers repelled by these companies' complicity in human rights violations.
